It’s a lot, isn’t it? Living in this modern world and being constantly pummeled by information from around the globe. And then there are solar flares, earthquakes, eclipses and Mercury retrograde to navigate.
Add all sorts of healing clamoring for our attention. Trauma, karma, past lives, attachment injuries and ancestral healing as well as the gut, inflammation, the nervous system and those pesky limiting beliefs. And a gazillion types of therapies vying for our attention on IG and TikTok. And probably a dozen other sites of which I am blessedly ignorant!
There are environmental chemicals to detox, nutrients to be sought out through special diets and expensive supplements, downloads and transmissions to be received, sugar and GMOs to be avoided and good grief, does it ever end?!
Remember the morning pages, gratitude journal, intentions and visualizations. Better keep on top of the potions and lotions and for the love of all that is holy, don’t forget the hormone balancing herbs!
Perhaps you have a team of doctors, each of them responsible for one small segment of your physical health, all in different locations with varying schedules. Maybe there’s physical therapy, yoga therapy, massage therapy or boot camp and getting your steps in.
In the very near future, I need to renew my auto registration, get my car inspected and have my oil changed. Oh yeah, renew AAA. If I was on the fence before, learning that a wheel needs to be removed to replace my battery really sealed that deal.
It’s time for my annual haircut and I’m tempted to just lop 6” off my ponytail to save myself the time and expense. And the small talk. Ugh, that’s the worst!
What about all the subscriptions and memberships? And the flipping passwords? Keeping track of it all is just exhausting.
How can I possibly get anything done with all these obligations, distractions and conflicting agendas?
Well, the truth of it is, I can’t.
I can’t do very much on my own.
If it were entirely up to me, I’d go back to bed and pull the covers over my head.
Thank goodness it’s not entirely up to me!
Much of the time I remember that I am guided and supported every step of the way. OK, so I often forget, but the unpleasantness of suffering and struggle quickly reminds me that there is an alternative. I can hand it all over to the Divine and ask to be shown the way forward.
If the Divine can create beauty like this, it seems reasonable to me that it can handle my problems and concerns.
If this sounds like one more task for the overflowing to-do list, know that it is NOT.
It’s more of an undoing. An uncovering. Revealing what is already there, but hidden beneath the façade of materialistic conditioning from a society that devalues spiritual connection.
It’s not something you need to understand intellectually, so there are no classes to take or books to read. It’s not something for which you need to train your muscles or develop a 12-step plan.
It’s an act of trust in something greater than you and cultivating moments of awareness that you’re not alone in this hot mess called the 21st century.
If that sounds like a lovely fairytale, I hear ya. I’ve been gradually refining my trust over decades. It was a process that took time and devotion. Hardship is what brought me to this path early in life and it might sound weird, but I’m ever so grateful for the (seemingly) insurmountable obstacles of my youth that nudged me onto it. If I had had a comfortable ride, I’d be on a totally different trajectory, probably less fulfilled and more stressed.
Difficulties invited me to grow my willingness to let my soul lead. I didn’t know how, but I knew I needed a different approach than trying to manage and control (HA! As if…) circumstances. All I had was a desire for things to be different and the willingness to let something beyond my ego take the reigns.
I wasn’t exactly sure where this post was going when I started it. Somewhere in the middle, a podcast intersected my thoughts, reminding me that when we are in connection with our souls, we don’t need psychics, coaches, tarot cards or astrologers to tell us what to do. We just know. We don’t need crystals and talismans or magical runes to keep us safe. The ultimate guidance and protection come from within. Sure, it can be fun and even helpful to utilize the tools, but they aren’t truly necessary when we have access to the source of power and wisdom.
So while there might be a lot going on out in the world and in our lives, there is a universal remedy that carries all the medicine we need, in exactly the right dosage. Developing a relationship with your soul is the single most effective strategy for all the things. It might lead you to a coach, oracle deck or nutritional supplement, and naturally we need to be discerning and follow through, but there’s no need to go chasing after all the answers if we allow our inner authority to guide us to the answer that is uniquely ours.
If you haven’t already had a listen, I highly recommend the clearing and grounding practice I recorded for the eclipse. It’s a simple way to release some of the clutter that might be preventing you from hearing your soul’s voice. Developing a daily habit of making yourself available to receive guidance is one of the things I recommend most frequently to clients and students who are wanting to create change. (Reiki is the other, in case you were wondering…)
Yes, there are a million and one things you can probably do to improve your life. Why not simplify and choose the one that will have the greatest power to make the biggest impact with a minimum of effort?
as ever, i am receiving this insightful offering when i needed it most. thank you, Pamela. one of the things that i remembered while reading this is a teaching offered by another wise one in the last decade - the invitation to "go narrow and deep." i understand this as, making a commitment to a particular way of practicing and showing up for it (daily/throughout the day). i anchor, root and return there. i rise, shift and move from that place. and, of course, the impact, ripples and quakes that come through engaging with a singular practice reach all of the nooks and crannies of my life/world.
I think you are the first teacher/guide I've found who has said what I have been feeling. I don't need the divination stuff anymore. Even the astrology is intuitive... You are absolutely right: when we are tuned in, we know what we need to know. 💜
