Navigating the Intersections
I’m fascinated by the intersection of seemingly random things. How an unexpected phone call, paired with the chapter I’m reading and a song on the radio can blend into a huge AHA! that might not have emerged without all the pieces.
It happens to me frequently. I can be organizing a closet and uncover loose, miscellaneous stuff and think that some sort of container would be useful. Then a mysterious lid without a container appears, then a container that has no lid that is exactly the right size and shape for the stuff and the lid. It all comes together organically and better than any plan I could formulate.
I’m exploring how this pattern also relates to health. Such as how a genetic predisposition might remain inactive until circumstances, habits or beliefs overlap at a critical point on the energetic blueprint. (This is what the study of epigenetics show us.) I’m especially curious how we can influence correlating factors to impact the outcome.
Type two diabetes runs in my family. I may or may not have that experience in my future, but I’d rather not. I do have control over many of the factors that could bring about different results. I can avoid an excess of sugar, stay hydrated, move my body and learn how to metabolize sweetness in the emotional sense. This won’t change my genetic inheritance but could change my reality.
There are many things in life that are beyond our control. Each time I think I have a handle on avoiding modern-day toxins, I learn of a new disturbing trend in manufacturing or commercial farming that shocks me. While I do do my best to minimize the chemicals and pollutants I’m exposed to, I also look to the potential intersections that could tip the scales in ways I would prefer to avoid.
I do have a fair amount of choice when it comes to what I put in and on my body, where I spend my time and with whom and my willingness to adapt as guided.
I have the tools to challenge my thoughts and rewrite my beliefs.
I have the skill to inhabit my body and access the wisdom within.
I am developing the capacity to welcome my emotions with patience and compassion and address behavioral patterns that put me at risk.
I am able to flood myself with healing life-force energy whenever I like.
This is where I focus my attention- on all the power I have to create the world I desire.
Knowing about the factors that stand in the way can be useful for pointing me towards preventative or remedial factors, but I can see that there is no sense in obsessing about what is beyond my influence.
Do you remember when encyclopedias were a series of hardbound books? Before I could access all the information with a few clicks on my phone, I spent time poking around in these volumes. I found the section on the human body enthralling. It contained pages of overlaying cellophane, each one showing a bodily system. The bottom page was the skeleton. You could look at it independently or stack the next page, perhaps the organs, to see how they fit together. Then you could add the blood vessels and nerves, etc.
That idea has stuck with me for decades! There are all these circumstances in life that look one way when viewed separately, but when brought together look entirely different. It pops into my head when I contemplate why people are affected differently by the same circumstances- like how some people who are exposed to toxic chemicals are chronically ill and others hale and hearty.
I suspect it has to do with the intersections; that many factors such as unexpressed emotions, chronic stress, limiting beliefs, environment, and a sense of purpose and connection to life can tip the scales towards a favorable or unfavorable outcome. I imagine that for some, the X that marks the unwanted spot lines up on several pages of cellophane, creating a greater risk than for those who only have one lonesome X.
This is especially revelatory when it comes to longstanding issues. If you’ve been working on creating change and it just isn’t happening, perhaps you’re overlooking one of the intersecting factors. If you’re feeling stuck, zoom out and try to peel back the layers of cellophane overlaying one another and seek the point of imbalance that contributes to vulnerability and adapt as best you can.
Allowing the soul to lead can be particularly helpful in this regard. My soul has a higher, broader, deeper and wiser perspective than my intellect. It can see the missing pieces and point me towards the obstacles that need my awareness. It can shine the light on the actions that will help me move forward if I’m willing to listen and follow through. It helps me to notice the intersections, rather than just blowing past, consumed with my thoughts and busyness.
Please accept my open-ended invitation to slow down, look up and notice the synchronicities, especially when they come in clumps. Be open to any messages they may contain and be willing to pivot as guided. And do share below if you’d like! I think we can all learn from one another, because you may notice something I wouldn’t and pointing it out can be truly helpful.
While I prefer everything to be neat and beautiful like the above photo, reality is generally more complex like the bottom photo. With practice, you can learn to navigate both with ease.
