Here We Go!
Tomorrow is a big day in the U.S. An election that will leave a large portion of our citizens unsatisfied, at best. It’s a real shit show.
Two things, though.
One. Our thoughts affect our nervous systems, which affect our hormones and immune system. There’s a word for it. I’m nerdy like that, so I know.
Psychoneuroimmunoendrinology.
Regardless of which team you’re on- red, blue, or green- is it worth making yourself sick over?
Not for me. I am actively regulating my emotions and nervous system and carefully discerning what information I am digesting and whose company I keep. Whatever happens, I prefer to meet it with optimal health, not from my sickbed.
I’ve got the soothing music, aromatherapy, flower essences, and Reiki working overtime here.
I’m seeing a lot of completely unhinged behavior. On both sides. The yard sign wars of 2024 are forever commemorated in video montage form. They might be comical one day, but right now, the mental/emotional disintegration is disturbing.
(Side note: these adult tantrums captured on doorbell cameras are the direct result of nervous system dysregulation. When someone gets wound up watching the news and the fight reflex kicks in, they have an overwhelming urge to do something, anything, right the bleep NOW. Their cognitive abilities are offline, and they act on instinct without any reflection on negative consequences or the unlikelihood of this action having a desirable outcome. If people knew how to recognize the signals and deactivate the defense mechanisms, they could then develop a well-thought-out strategy and have a persuasive conversation rather than melting down like a toddler. I’m extremely concerned about the long-term health risks of those who have been living in this state for years now and this exactly why I’m always going on about nervous system regulation.)
Yes, there are political issues that are important. It may seem like some of them are at risk. Is any of that more important than your well-being?
You can choose the thoughts that you feed with your attention and energy. Choose wisely. Take a deep breath and let that tension go before it takes root.
Two. The president is indeed a powerful person. But not the ultimate power. So many things are more power.
Corporations.
Kidding.
Kinda.
But... I’m talking about the force that created this world. You may call it The Universe, Source Energy, Great Spirit, Nature, Love, Goddess, God. Heck, you can call it Bob. The name doesn’t matter.
I’m here to remind you that this force, Life Itself, has a plan and while we may not see it, may disagree wholeheartedly with its implementation, may kick and fight and curse and scream, we’re only hurting ourselves.
Have faith, my friends. The sun will rise tomorrow and the day after that. The planets will continue to orbit, the tides will ebb and flow, the winter will descend and eventually depart.
The wheel keeps on turning. Hold tight to what is dear to you and stay true to your values. Look after your health and that of those around you. Let your family and neighbors have their own opinions.
This is but a blip in time. If the divine can keep us alive on a rock hurtling through space at breakneck speeds, I truly believe that we can get through this.
The caterpillar turns to mush in the cocoon before the butterfly can emerge. What if this is exactly what is supposed to be happening so that we can spread our wings come spring?
